Cars
This post is actually not about cars; it's only related to cars. Two things I wanted to say.
1) I was saying to my parents that I would not want to spend so much money on cars. If I was earning, for example $50K, I would not want to buy a car worth my entire year's salary. I rather put the money to better use, such as buying property. I mean, a car that's $50K or $60K is pretty decent but it would look bad if I was still driving after like ten years. I would rather lease for about 3 years and switch to a newer car. That way, I would still be driving a nice car and be more updated. The cost may be a little higher, but at least I'm not tied down. And besides, I'm still getting myself from point A to point B. My Dad says "to get there in style" and I quickly responded, "depends on who you want to appear in style in front of". Anyway, looks is still important. Since budget is tight and not all cars that fit my budget have a look that I am satisfied with, I can get quite picky. In my situation, especially when I got my Prelude, I had to get 2nd-hand cars so I didn't have much choice. But I consider myself lucky that I got the Civic that I did. Not too many other cars that are of the same age and price that looked and performed good. I mean, my Civic was a 2000 Si-G. What else was there that looked good? I still really like the Nissan 300ZX but the last model came out in 1996. There was the Integra of the late 90's with its little twin headlights, but they tend to attract thieves I think. The newer CorollaS with spoiler actually doesn't look too bad. Or how about an American car? Mmm............. neh......
2) I also wanted to say that I like to travel around and use a car to do this. The car is a like a tool for me that brings me around. And it provides me with a great environment to listen to my music in. When I'm on the road going places, it would be just me and my car together facing the world. Although I've never tried it, I don't think I would like to drive a car with the mindframe that I'm operating a mechanical machine and that I need to somehow do something mechanically inclined with my hands such as operating gearshifts. I think I'm more happy just letting the car take me places and play my music for me.
